In a press event in Taiwan for Mega Man 11, producer Kazuhiro Tsuchiya dispelled online rumors that Mega Man X9 is in development. Furthermore, he also revealed a bit more about Mega Man 11, such as another extra mode, and the fact that the Rush Adapters will not be used in the game. [Thanks, Bahamut!]
Here are the highlights:

Media: Can the game be beaten without using the Double Gear System?
Megaman X9
Kazuhiro Tsuchiya, producer: “This is up to the players. We’ve balanced the difficulty so that you can beat the stages even without it, so that players can choose their own method.”
Media: Are there Rush Adapters in this game?
Tsuchiya: “This time there are no Rush Adapter combinations. We did think about it in the early stages of development, but after internal discussion we decided to make the Double Gear system the core gameplay system, and discarded that idea.”
Media: With Mega Man’s usual 8 stages plus the final gauntlet, would the playtime be too short for modern gaming standards?
Tsuchiya: “Apart from the main game, we have prepared several challenge stage, including timed challenges and balloon challenges. There is also a yet-unannounced mode where you need to shoot an enemy in order to prevent it from touching the ground.”
Media: Before Mega Man 11’s announcement, Mega Man Legacy Collection was released, and was thought to be testing the waters for a new game. Now, Mega Man X Legacy Collection has also been released for the Mega Man X series. If both Mega Man 11 and Mega Man X Legacy Collection are both successful, will we see Mega Man X9 or a new game in the Mega Man X series?
Tsuchiya: “Right now we’re going to first complete Mega Man 11’s development, and gather feedback after its release while we’re at it. While there are rumors online that Mega Man X9 is currently in development, there’s no such thing.”
Media: So this means that there are no plans in development for a Mega Man X9?
Tsuchiya: “I understand that many people are looking forward to an X9, but I cannot make any promises at this stage. Of course, it’s not like we’ve done nothing – we’ll be carefully monitoring the player reactions.
Actually, Mega Man 11 was also born because of the players’ voices for a new game. The collection before did quite well in terms of sales and reviews, and this was a main point of argument that backed our proposal to develop a new game project.”
